I began a “diet” on March 11, 2018. In the ensuing almost four months, I’ve lost 35 pounds and literally no one notices.
Diet is in quotes because this has truly become for me a new way of eating and a new way of life. However, it is a diet in the truest sense of the word, because they way I’m eating now is not the way I’ll be eating to maintain my weight loss forever. I’m currently in what they call “fat burning” mode. Eventually I’ll be in “maintenance” mode and I’ll be eating somewhat differently. Right now I’m in deep calorie deficit and ironically, I’ve never felt more comfortably full after meals or eaten so healthily. Not even when I was at that fat farm my parents sent me to when I was 18.
But none of that is the point of this. I wasn’t even going to write about this weight loss journey before now, but dang it, I’m frustrated, so I’m speaking out.
I have lost 35 of my 95 pound weight loss goal and literally NO ONE NOTICES!!! And I’m looking for it. For that, “wow, something’s different” spark in their eye. Nothing. Nada. I’ve recently been to several parties with family and friends and my husband’s work colleagues that all saw me recently 35 pounds heavier and no one notices. Or no one is saying if they do.
That is so tough. I’m so proud of myself and the hard work I’ve been putting in that I want people to be gushing in celebration with me and…crickets. I’m down a two pants sizes. Like I feel like that’s significant. I’ve lost almost 4 inches from my belly area. And I get that I’m tall and everything, so it’s not going to be as noticeable as if I were six inches shorter, but please!!
God bless my hubby and close friends that know about the diet and say, “Oh yeah, I really see it in your face” or “your legs are thinner!” Thanks guys, you know who you are. But no one else.
So, here’s what I want to say to all of you kind people out there. I don’t care what anyone tells you. This world is VERY visual. And we notice how people look. (So, maybe all of these people that I’ve come in contact with have noticed and just don’t want to say anything because we are supposed to be loving our bodies no matter what their size these days.) But damn it, SAY SOMETHING if you notice that someone has been putting in the work. Because it is WORK.
You don’t have to say, “Hey, have you lost weight?” But you can say, “Hey, you’re really looking good.” My kingdom for a hey, you’re really looking good!!!
So, here’s your PSA people. Say SOMETHING!
